Wednesday the Canucks hosted the Canmore Eagles for the first time since October. The Canucks were quick to get thing started as #17 Tyler Petrie put one in the net from #8 Jaxon Steele and #2 Brody Medeiros. The Eagles came right back with a goal of their own from #26 Max Giagualano. Not willing to sit back the Canucks jumped back into the lead less than a minute later with a goal from #2 Brody Medeiros and #22 Josh Giacomin. The first would end with the Canucks holding a 2-1 lead. 6:17 into the second #27 Connor Lyons put one in for the Eagles to tie the game. The Eagles would take the lead after a goal from #7 Jake Ashton. After 40 minutes of play the Eagles were up 3-2 over the Canucks. To kick off the third period #8 Jaxon Steele put one into the net on the power play from #27 Jordan McConnell and #24 Hayden Ursulak. At 5:13 the Canucks would move back out front as #17 Tyler Petrie scored his second of the game off a pass from #7 Michael Clarke and #8 Jaxon Steele. Things went well for the rest of the game and the Canucks would take the win 4-3!
Friday night the Canucks travelled south for a match up against the Okotoks Oilers. After a back and forth first period the Canucks would end up outshooting the Oilers 15-9, but neither team would get on the board. Mid-way through the period the Canucks would capitalize on the power play to take a 1-0 lead. The goal was scored by #23 Mark Drohan, assisted by #22 Josh Giacomin and #25 Zach Webb. The Oilers would make it 1-1 scoring a power play goal of their own at 16:12 from #14 Kyle Gordon. With under a minute left in the period #7 Nick Blankenburg would score for the Oilers to take the lead. In the third, #16 Cole Basnett put another on the board for the Oilers extending their lead to 3-1. Battling to get back in the game #22 Josh Giacomin scored a short-handed marker from #13 Cooper Johnson and #23 Mark Drohan to move within one. In the final minutes the Canucks would pull their goaltender for the extra attacked. The Oilers would get an empty net goal from #23 Tanner Laderoute to win the game 4-2.
Back in action Saturday night the Canucks were set to face off against the Sherwood Park Crusaders for the first time this season. The Canucks came out flying as #7 Michael Clarke scored just 1:49 into the first to give the Canucks an early lead. A short time later the Crusaders would tie up the game as #55 Tyson Gruninger put one in the net. #17 Chase Anderson would make it 2-1 for the Crusaders scoring at the 14:51 mark of the first. The Crusaders extended their lead to 3-1 as #55 Tyson Gruninger scored his second on the night. The first would come to a close with the Canucks trailing the Crusaders by two. The Canucks turned up the heat to start the second as #17 Tyler Petrie put one in the back of the net from #7 Michael Clarke and #8 Jaxon Steele. #22 Josh Giacomin would score the equalizing goal just past the mid- way mark of the second after being set up by #28 Chad Varney and #23 Mark Drohan. Continuing to put on the pressure, #8 Jaxon Steele would score from #6 Scott Nicholson to put the Canucks back in the lead. The period would close with the Canucks holding a 4-3 lead. Things didn’t slow down for the Canucks in the third as #19 Zach Russell scored on the power play to make it 5-3. Assist on the goal went to #7 Michael Clarke. Just a minute later the Canucks would capitalize on the power play once again as #8 Jaxon Steele scored his second of the night from #6 Scott Nicholson and #23 Mark Drohan. #17 Tyler Petrie was rewarded with his second after he fired one into the net from linemates #8 Jaxon Steele and #7 Michael Clarke. The scoring wouldn’t end there as #20 Michael Johnson would put one into the net from #13 Cooper Johnson and #23 Mark Drohan. With time running out the Canucks would finish their week with a huge 8-3 win over the Crusaders.
Up Next, the Canucks will be across town on Tuesday, January 23 to take on the Calgary Mustangs. Then the boys will head up to Camrose on Friday for a battle against the Kodiaks before travelling west of the city for a match up against Canmore Eagles Sunday afternoon.
