Weekly Recap: November 20 – November 26

Looking to gain ground the Canucks started off the week with a game against our cross town rivals the Calgary Mustangs. The Canucks kicked off the scoring as #12 Andrew Marshall put one in the back of the net from #11 Alex Wilkins and #19 Zach Russell. #13 Cooper Johnson added the Canucks lead just a 1 minute and 40 seconds later, scoring off a pass from #17 Mitch Stapley. The period wrapped up with the Canucks holding onto a 2-0 lead. In the second the Canucks continued putting on the pressure racking up 27 shots in the period. The hard work paid off as #19 Zach Russell made it 3-0 with just 4 seconds left in the period with help from #25 Zach Webb. The momentum continued into the third as #19 Zach Russell scored his second goal of the game from #12 Andrew Marshall. #7 Michael Clarke added another for the Canucks to extend the lead to 4-0 with a power play goal. Assists on the goal went to #28 Chad Varney and #11 Alex Wilkins. With 5:09 remaining in the third the Canucks scored once again with a goal from #27 Jordan McConnell after a set up from #23 Mark Drohan and #9 Cooper Page. As time expired, the Canucks came away with a big 6-0 win! Final Shots were 59-26 Canucks.

Hitting the road the Canucks were in Brooks Friday night for a matchup against the Brooks Bandits. #19 Zach Russell started the scoring at 4:04 of the first with help from #12 Andrew Marshall to give the Canucks a 1-0 lead. The Bandits evened things up with a power play goal from #13 Will Garin, assisted by #14 Ryan Mahshie and #11 Nathan Plessis. Continuing to play hard the Canucks were able to regain the lead as #25 Zach Webb put one in the net from #28 Chad Varney. After the first the score was 2-1 Canucks. In the second #23 Mark Drohan added another for the Canucks on the power play to make it 3-1 Canucks. Assists on the goal came from #11 Alex Wilkins and #12 Andrew Marshall. The period would end with the Canucks up 3-1. In a goal filled third period the Bandits moved within one as #24 Ocean Wiesblatt scored from #9 Louis Jamernik and #4 Dennis Cesana. The Canucks responded as #13 Cooper Johnson scored after a set-up from #4 Kyler Newman and #17 Mitch Stapley. The Bandits came back as #10 Arnaud Vachon put one in the net from #20 Matt Cassidy and #15 Jakob LaPointe. With the Bandits within one they pulled their goaltender for the extra attacker. #27 Jordan McConnell capitalized on the empty net to make it 5-3 Canucks. With time running out the Canucks got their second win of the week!

On Saturday the Canucks hosted the Whitecourt Wolverines at Max Bell Centre. The Wolverines were first on the board with a goal from #16 Brayden Labant with help from #27 Estian Coetzee and #15 Tyr Thompson. The Canucks wouldn’t let the Wolverines hold onto the lead for long as #18 Blake Stevenson scored to even things up. #12 Andrew Marshall and #22 Josh Giacomin assisted on the goal. After 20 minutes of play the game was tied 1-1. In the second things were back and forth across the ice but overall an uneventful period as no goal were scored and no penalties were taken. In the third #15 Justin Paarup scored his first goal from #10 Noah Williams to make it 2-1 Canucks. At 13:23 of the third #24 Ben Evanish scored for the Wolverines to make it 2-2 with help from #14 Stevie Bryant and #18 Spencer Bast. Just 6 seconds later the Wolverines would take the lead off a bizarre goal which would be awarded to #10 Ryan Grant assisted by Jaedon Leslie. Now down by one the Canucks had some work to do. #23 Mark Drohan put one past the Wolverines goaltender to tie up the game with 1:45 remaining in the period. Assists on the goal went to #25 Zach Webb and #28 Chad Varney. Continuing to put on the pressure the Canucks were able to take the lead as #7 Michael Clarke scored from #23 Mark Drohan and #28 Chad Varney. The game would conclude with the Canucks winning 4-3!

Up next, the Canucks will meet up with the Brooks Bandits at home on Thursday, November 30th. Then on Saturday, December 2 the Canucks will head out to Brooks for round two against the Bandits.
