The Canucks hosted back-to-back games at home this past weekend as the Camrose Kodiaks and Lloydminster Bobcats were in town. Things kicked off with the Kodiaks on Saturday evening. The Kodiaks made the first move of the game as #22 Nic Correale scored on the power play after a set up from #21 Ryan Hartman and #4 Zach Vinnell. Late in the period the Canucks battled back getting a goal from #7 Michael Clarke, assisted by #24 Hayden Ursulak and #19 Zach Russell. After 20 minutes the game was tied 1-1. In the second the Canucks took the lead on the power play as #28 Chad Varney put one in the back of the net from #8 Dylan Williamson and #7 Michael Clarke. With just 1:24 remaining the in the second the Kodiaks evened things up as #4 Zach Vinnell scored on the power play from #37 Brock Bremer and #14 Dawson Schwengler. Mid-way through the third the Canucks once again took the lead with a goal from #9 Cooper Page. Assists going to #7 Michael Clarke and #19 Zach Russell. At 13:51 the Kodiaks evened up the game once again with a goal from #37 Brock Bremer who was set up by #17 Cale Chalifoux and #18 Kyler Kupka. With the game on the line the Canucks picked up the pace push and were rewarded as #9 Cooper page put one in the net from #28 Chad Varney. With time running out the Kodiaks pulled their goaltender for the extra attacker but the Canucks were able to hold them off taking the 4-3 win!
With a big win on Saturday the Canucks were hoping for a good game against the Lloydminster Bobcats. Things didn’t start the way the Canucks would have liked as the Bobcats came out of the gate strong scoring 4 goals in the first period. The first two goals on the board came courtesy of #22 Mike MacLean, followed by two goals from #18 Kobe Walker. At 6:27 of the second period the Bobcats increased their lead to 5-0 with a goal from #14 Brock Sottile. #23 Zach Kaiser scored another for the Bobcats to make it 6-0. The Canucks battled hard scoring their first of the game from #12 Andrew Marshall, assisted by #24 Hayden Ursulak and #7 Michael Clarke. The Bobcats responded a minute later making it 7-1 with a goal from #18 Kobe Walker. At the end of the second the Canucks were down 7-1 to the Bobcats but led the shots in the period 20-4. Just 3 minutes into the third the Bobcats made it 8-1 as #9 Zach Webb scored. Things would finish up with the Bobcats holding an 8-1 lead. Final shots were 43-36 in favour of the Canucks.
Up next, the Canucks will be back in action on Friday, November 3rd they face off against the Olds Grizzlys at Max Bell Centre at 7:00pm. Then Saturday, the boys will be travelling to Olds for game 2 of our home-and-home against the Grizzlys.
