Weekly Recap: February 5 - February 11

Tuesday night the Canucks hosted the Drumheller Dragons.  Things started out in favour of the Dragons as they scored two goals in the first goals of the game.  The first came at 1:28 from # 10 Tyler Kreklewich.  The Dragons second goal was scored by #8 Bradley Stonnell.  After the first the Dragons held a 2-0 lead.  In the second the Dragons were able to extend their lead to 7-0.  The first two goals of the period were scored on the power play from #29 Alex Rotundo and #28 Brett Edwards respectively.  At 15:10 #14 Jordan Taupert scored to make it 5-0.  #37 Markus Boguslavsky would follow up scoring two goals to make it 7-0.  In the third #8 Bradley Stonnell would add another to the Dragons lead.  On the power play #25 Zach Webb would score for the Canucks to break the Dragons shutout with help from #2 Brody Medieros and #4 Kyler Newman.  The Dragons would get one last goal from #3 Andrew Kartusch to make it 9-1, which is where the game would finish.

Friday the Canucks were out in Canmore to take on the Eagles in their kickoff to hometown hockey.  Things started out in favor of the Eagles as #21 Trevor Van Steinburg scored on the power play to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.  #23 Tian Rask would extend the Eagles lead at 15:49 of the first to make it 2-0.  In the second the Canucks were looking to switch things up.  7:24 into the period #24 Hayden Ursulak would put one in the net from #8 Jaxon Steele and #2 Brody Medeiros to move the Canucks within one.  Just three minutes later #24 Hayden Ursulak tied the game with his second goal of the period.  Assists on the goal went to #13 Cooper Johnson and #4 Kyler Newman. With time running out in the third the Eagles would move back into the lead with a power play goal from #15 Quinton Ong.   Down by one heading into the third the Canucks were looking to move ahead of the Eagles.  #19 Zach Russell would tie things up 3-3 with a goal on the power play from #23 Mark Drohan.  The Canucks would move into the lead with a goal from #8 Jaxon Steele at the midway mark of the period off a pass from #13 Cooper Johnson and #7 Michael Clarke.  The Eagles responded to tie the game 4-4 with a goal from #7 Jake Ashton. The Canucks turned up the heat and were rewarded as #22 Josh Giacomin put one in the net from #27 Jordan McConnell and #25 Zach Webb.  Time would expire and the Canucks would win 5-4!

Saturday the Canucks were back on home ice and ready to face the Grande Prairie Storm.  The first period was a back and forth period but neither team was able to get on the board. In the second period the scoring opened up.  Just 9 seconds into the second #8 Jaxon Steele got the Canucks on the board from #17 Tyler Petrie and #7 Michael Clarke.  #27 Jordan McConnell extended the Canucks lead to 2-0 with a power play goal off a set up from #25 Zach Webb and #23 Mark Drohan.  The goals kept coming for the Canucks as #13 Cooper Johnson fired one into the net.  Assists on the goal went to #4 Kyler Newman and #16 Max Struss.  Just past the midway mark #19 Zach Russell scored an unassisted marker to put the Canucks up 4-0.  The Storm were looking to get back in it and scored at 13:45 with a goal by #23 Jonothan Hader.  The Storm would move within two of the Canucks as #8 Justin Bernier scored a short-handed goal to make it 4-2 Canucks.   The period would end with the Canucks holding a 4-2 lead.  At 7:51 of the third the Storm would score once again to make it 4-3 with a goal from #28 Parker Huebner.  With everything on the line the Storm would pull their goaltender for the extra attacker.  With 22 seconds remaining in the game #24 Hayden Ursulak would score on the empty net to extend the Canucks lead to 5-3.  Assists on the goal went to #19 Zach Russell and #13 Cooper Johnson.   Time would run out and the Canucks would finish with their second win of the week!

Up Next, the Canucks are on the road on Tuesday, February 13 when they will take on the Brooks Bandits.  Then on Friday the Canucks will make a trip out to Drumheller to face the Dragons.
